GALLOPERS TRACK MAP
ASCOT
Circumference 2050m Located on the Swan River about 5km north west of Perth CBD, Ascot is headquarters for WA racing and a most picturesque circuit. The track although wide, is not renowned for giving horses good runs from most starting points. In fact the 1600m & 1400m starts are diabolical with inside barriers a distinct advantage. The 2200m start also has a hsort run to the winning post so inside abrriers again are an advantage. The 1200m & 2400m starts are okay. The track does play quite fairly, mainly due to plenty of pace being on in most races with horses attempting to get across to the fence from wide draws. So with pace on, it gives the back markers some hope of gettign home in the straight. However, with such a short straight, should there be a rac ewith little pace, the it will favour front runners. We like horses drawn inside barriers that sit handy, without necessarily leading.
