Cessnock is a grass racing surface located in the heart of the NSW wine country about half an hour west of Newcastle.

The track is very tight, almost circular in shape. This causes problems for horses drawn wide from any of the starting points. Inside barriers a distinct advantage at Cessnock.

Always plenty of pace on in races, despite this, on pace on fence runners are generally to the fore.
