GALLOPERS PUNTING ARTICLES

Futures Betting: A Bookies Delight

Futures, or all in betting, has been around since the turn of the century, making bookmakers rich. Yep, that's right, year in and year out bookies put up markets for the big spring races months before the races are even run, taking punters money.

One bookie of note has had a Melbourne Cup market available to punters since November 2009!

There is an old adage that punters must heed in this instance, "a fool and his money are quickly parted".

Why do you think bookies offer these all in, pre post market? Because they win plenty of money on them!

We will give punters five excellent reasons why they should not place wagers with bookies on all in markets:-

1    Punters do not know if the horse they back will even start in the race
2    Punters do not know the final acceptances for the race
3    Punters do not know weather & track conditions
4    Punters do not know from what barrier the horse will start
5    Punters do not know (in most instances) which jockey will ride their horse

And, if punters are placing bets in August, they do not know what weight their horse will receive, nor which overseas horses will be coming to Australia.

Yea sure, punters are offered what they may consider to be over the odds when placing these bets. And yes of course, some do salute lining the punters pockets with exorbitant profits.

Nevertheless, think about it, how many bets have you placed in early Melbourne or Caulfield Cup markets? On how many have you collected? On how many has your horses even gained a start in the race?

Seriously, anything could happen in three months and that is why bookies offer markets to punters because the odds are overwhelmingly in their favour that the horse will not even start in the race, let alone beat the other 20 or so runners up against him on the day. Even if a punters obtains 100/1 about a horse that start 10/1 on the day of the race, the odds are still grossly unders what he should be receiving.

A good solid bet on race day, when all prevailing variables are completely exposed to the punter, is a far better betting proposition than simply lining bookmakers pockets betting all in.

Early spring time is definitely the silly season when punters become rhapsodisingly excited about a horses big race chances, even before that horse has had his first up run.

Punters, don't do it, keep your cash safely planted in your wallet until race day when you have all relevant information in front of you.

Punters should not place bets in all in or futures markets with bookmakers, a far healthier profit will be made should this advice be heeded.

Good luck & profitable punting to all . . . . .
