Friday Preview 24.2.12

There are only seven galloping meetings for this Friday which is a little down on the last month or two. It is Quirindi Cup Day in northern western NSW with  the famous Lightning the main support on the day. Goulburn, Ballarat, Ipswich & Geraldton make up the remaining five afternoon meetings.

Moonee Valley host an excellent night meeting this Friday with $50,000 minimum prize money for each race. The feature is the Typhoon Tracy Stakes for the fillies over 1200m along with a $150,000 stayers event over 2500m. The final event of the evening looks a terrific race worth $80,000 with six last start winners engaged. The Sunshine Coast also race in the evening to support the big Moonee Valley program.

Moonee Valley R2 0-82  2040m ****

1 #5 Second King - bolted in over this course & distance at his second run back from a  spell, can only be improved by that effort & this field appears no stronger
2 #2 Platome Castle - has above average ability however just struggles to win in town very fit & well drawn so still a strong winning chance
3 #1 Laspiel - ran on strongly to win over 1600m here last start however has a significant weight & distance rise for this
4 #4 Savaging - might improve with fitness here & this field is not overly strong

Moonee Valley R4 Open  955m ***

1 #2 Kulgrinda - this is the easiest race she has been involved in for quite some time & will appreciate it, fitter for very good first up run will sit just off the speed & be storming home in the straight
2 #3 Eight Bills - big effort at Mornington last start & this race suits although is awkwardly drawn again
3 #12 Globalwarmingsceptic - has won here in the past & trainer knows how to get them right, will not be too far away
4 #8 Morgan Dollar - getting on in years now however could easily win this race on his day

Moonee Valley R6 Typhoon Tracy  1200m **

1 #1 Miss Stellabelle - she is probably the best filly in the race & deserves to win a race like this, fitter for first up run & looks the one to beat despite the awkward draw
2 #5 Chivvy - might pay to over look last run in much stronger grade, should she reproduce previous winning effort she will go close here
3 #6 Assertive Eagle - well above average, freshened since last easy win in SA, well drawn & do not discount
4 #10 Jolie Blonde - looked super impressive wining at Mornington on Cup day, this race much tougher however can take the next step

Moonee Valley R8 0-82  1600m *

1 #7 Zlatan - very promising horse who has already won 4 from 8, didn't win by much last start however was beaten by a smart one here prior, barrier the only concern
2 #3 Midnight Express - put up an outstanding performance to win last start at Sandown from a  wide barrier, can figure again here
3 #1 Oregon Spirit - racing consistently however just getting up in the weights now which is a concern, still a strong chance
4 #8 Regalmania - racing well in weaker grade however drawn well enough here to be in the finish again

Quirindi R7 Akubra Quirindi Cup  1600m *

1 #1 Equable - has much stronger form than most of these can boast, first start for new stable however if he produces his city form here he should be winning
2 #3 Jeffrey Joe - one start here for 1 win, likes the distance, fitter now & will improve today
3 #7 Pesci - also fitter for 2 runs back & he will improve dramatically today & definitely figure in the finish
4 #9 El Sonador - forget last run when he got lost at Armidale, was racing well prior & has claims here

Quirindi R8 Lightning 1100m **

1 #2 Kelly - 1100m as far as he wants it & does rise in weight off last start win, however does appear to have a bit on most of these
2 #4 Sutton Queen - big run in a quality race last start, up against the boys here however does drop significantly in weight & has Ryan to navigate, hard to beat
3 #10 Rhyolite - no luck last start at Armidale, fitter for the run & has a chance at odds here
4 #3 Empire Palace - finding it hard to win however last run in town was good & must be included on that effort

Goulburn R6 BM60  1200m ****

1 #2 Prince Warrior - city class  galloper who resumed with a great effort to win from a wide barrier, can only be improved & is better than these especially from the good draw
2 #6 Riverwina Prince - grew wings to storm home & win here last start, can run second if he reproduces that effort again today
3 #1 Universal Magic - will strip fitter for his 2 runs this time in & should improve with the claim here
4 #5 The Devils Mark - fitter for first up effort & can figure here with natural improvement

Best of luck & profitable punting to all this Friday .....
