Caulfield Race 7
Victoria Hcp Group 3 1400m
First run the year in 1945 and won by Ungar, Lord won this race in 1958, Tauto in 1960, Jet
Fighter won twice, Regal Roller, Black Heart Bart in 2016 while Widgee Turf was successful in
Streets Of Avalon has been racing well throughout the Autumn, has won 2 of his past 5, wasn’t
beaten far last start and will appreciate the 1400m over which distance he has won twice. He is
very fit, well drawn, and not badly weighted on the 56kg.
Expect a sharp improvement from Fastnet Tempest here. Fitter for two runs this time in,
Williams jumps on, likes this distance, he is a definite contender.
Manolo Blahniq is also fitter for two runs since a break. He improved nicely last start when
runner up, did win the Listed Chester Manifold over this distance back in January, much fitter
from a good draw, major player.
Sircconi has been a tad disappointing in two runs this time in, however if he got back to his form
last preparation, which included a Group 3 win over this course and distance, he a credible
winning chance here. Fitter now and has a good draw.
Kemono is a place chance off her good third last start, awkward draw from this start point
however we can’t contemplate the other three in this race.
1 #3 Streets Of Avalon
2 #7 Manolo Blahniq
3 #4 Sircconi
4 #2 Fastnet Tempest
Caulfield Race 8
Easter Cup Group 3 2000m
First run in 1909 and won by Otira, this race has been won by some very good horses including
Future, Dandy Andy, Vonanne, Maldivian, with Shoreham victorious in 2018.
Plenty of serious winning chances here.
Plein Ciel has always indicated to us the 2000m would be ideal. Three good runs from a spell,
astute yard, well drawn, much fitter, he will do us.
Expect improvements here from both Nights Watch who is down significantly in grade and back
on a firmer racing surface, as well as Furrion who was too bad to be true at Bendigo, third up
over the 2000m he may be one who can surprise.
Odeon got to the lead far too early last start when not beaten far, more seasoned now, definite
player despite the draw. Ambitious has been taking on the cream, is looking for the 2000m now,
he too can improve to figure today.
Mantastic and Red Alto were both very good at Bendigo, hitting the line with gusto, they will
both appreciate the 200m, awkward draws an issue for both. Mortons Fork will win a race like
this one day, whether today is that day is up to him, he has the draw to get a gun run in transit
here. Sheezdashing hit the line strongly last start, alas, only one win from twenty repels us.
Difficult to become enthused about the winning chances of some of the rest.
1 #8 Plein Ciel
2 #1 Ambitious
3 #2 Nights Watch
4 #6 Odeon
